Today I’ll be showing you through my minimalist, scandinavian abode! It’s been in the works a long time now and has undergone some less than subtle changes. I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out and wanted to take this opportunity to show you my updated room tour. My room previously was very bare. While I kept all of my furniture, the majority of which is from Ikea, I otherwise did a complete overhaul.
I knew that what my room desperately lacked was vibrancy- I’m not one for bold colours so what you see here is the product of me breaking out of my comfort zone. I wanted to inject some much needed personality into the space and liven it up. How beautiful is the natural light in these shots? Golden hour is truly wondrous! I live in Parramatta, Sydney’s second biggest city- I like to think of it as a central hub. While the hustle and bustle of life in such a busy place can overwhelm, I adore the skyscraper views- it’s like a little taste of bigger, more exciting places like New York City. So dreamy!
Now onto an overview of my design choices. My sheets and duvet cover are from the I Love Linen range and I will never stop swooning over them. They are in the beautiful shades desert rose and blush. My woven throw cushion is from urban outfitters, as is the purple blanket pictured later on. My previous bedding was from adairs- I had the cotton/bamboo mix sheet set in white. I Love Linen sells top of the range, french stonewashed linen that is next to none. Sleeping has become an entire experience in itself. While their bedding is somewhat of an investment, it is more than worth it once you consider comfort, durability and the ratio of price per use- in this case, the price of a good night’s sleep, every night. Did I mention that linen is moisture wicking and temperature regulating? If you’re not sold now, I don’t know if you ever will be!
I love all the warm tones in my room at the moment. I’ve stuck with the theme of wood and white furniture but added plenty more trinkets and display pieces. My dresser area is home to my most used and prettiest jewellery pieces which are displayed on an apricot pink glass tray. It’s ornate and really dresses up that little area. I also have my glasshouse candle in the vanilla scent. It has become a firm favourite as it fills my room with the sweetest buttery aroma. I then have a few skincare bits and pieces, the current two being from Felicitous skincare. Lastly, a few inspirational quote cards from Kikki K and a small vase of dried blooms in all white.
My desk, mauve chair and the wooden stool holding my lamp are all from Ikea. The purple lamp itself is an old one my grandparents had so I’m unsure where that’s from. I was looking to get a more modern shade for it when I came across the beautiful rattan and brass look lamp pictured in other photos. I’ve since switched my lamps! Anyhow, onto my desk area- I have a bigger vase with australian native flowers, roses, babies breath, eucalyptus and more. I enjoy changing these out every so often! The terrazzo ceramic jar and knitted tassel blanket are boutique purchases from recent holidays. Other than that I have a reed diffuser, book from Instagram poet atticus and gold framed botanical print. This was originally wrapping paper but I decided to repurpose it. Some days I’ll keep a small magazine stack and trinket tray here as well.
I made two photo walls out of photographer taken prints I found on unsplash. They are a high quality stock image website perfect for adding flair to your blog posts, providing filler photos or room decoration as in my case! The prints sit above my dresser and fill up empty wall space across from my bed. Finally, sitting behind my mirror is this palm leaf. I find it so trendy and like how it adds another natural element to my room. It’s definitely my statement piece. Just a bit rustic! Next to that is a macrame wall hanging from urban outfitters- it’s simplistic but has this geometric design that adds dimension and fun to what would otherwise be a plain wall. Around this I’ve added my favourite portraits from the Turimetta Beach photoshoot I had last year. I always feel blissful looking at them!
Wow! Maryam your room is so beautiful and dreamy! It’s so organized, neat, and so minimal! I love how well all of the colors went together so much! The Unsplash photos together look SO NICE! I’m in love with your room! Good job Maryam!!! 🙂
Oh my goodness, thank you so much Manasa! You’re very sweet. I love the space that I’ve created and am glad I changed the look of my room to be warmer and with more colours! Simple fixes like this make it so much more inviting and I’m all for that!
Your room looks ah may zinggg..
I love ypur colour choice.. The photos on the wall are my favorite part
Thank you so much Ella xx
How would you describe the style of your bedroom?
Your room looks like such a relaxing/cozy place! 😍 I love my room the most when it goes all golden like that too as it feels so magical ✨ Don’t know if my room adheres to a style, it’s me so maybe quirky if that’s an option? 😂 I’d love a macrame wall hanging like that and really like the top of your dresser and how it looks like a writing desk! 💫💕
Quirky is absolutely awesome! A little bit here and there but full of all the things that make you happy. You couldn’t ask for anything better really! The macrame wall hanging is so pretty and there are plenty of budget friendly options. I got mine when I placed an urban outfitters order a few years back. I love that it adds an earthy, rustic and boho touch to the space!
Ikea has awesome furniture, especially when it comes to minimalism! I love your room, it’s so spacious and aesthetic!!
Thank you so much Wardah! The minimalist aesthetic and bright white walls definitely make it feel more spacious which I love.
Maryam your room is gorgeous!!! Like seriously, can we trade!!! I’m in love with the accents and the overall vibe!🥰
You’re so sweet Meghan! Thank you. It’s certainly a lovely and cosy space. How would you describe your bedroom? xx
My bedroom is kidish and bland :/
Aww. Sorry to hear that. Maybe you can slowly incorporate items you love into your space? Just little touches. It’ll transform over time if you’re not up for any big changes right now!
I love your room! It feels very you – warm, no excess clutter but still very personal. Also the way you edited the pictures for this was fabulous!xx
I think that sums it up really! It was definitely a goal of mine to create a minimalist space that felt homely. Traditional minimalist aesthetic can be very cold and bare looking when left unpersonalised! It’s just about adding accents and little touches here and there that let your personality shine through.
Wow such an aesthetic room! I can’t relate! Haha. It looks like those pinterest photos!
So kind, thank you Zara! What would you say is the style of your room? x
HAHA there’s no style at all, I’m so cbbs about it
This is such a gorgeous room! It just looks like the room that people feel comfortable and welcome in as soon as they enter, all while respecting the space that is personal to you. It looks so cosy and is really well put-together!
So aesthetically pleasing and beautiful, wow! Super jealous of the view from your window!! xx
