Hello Lovelies!
Our bodies have been our only homes since birth. We’re always trying to find home within belongings or people when all we need to do is look within. There are truly no roots more intimate than that of a mind and body that have united. 100% real talk there. I first discovered the incredible power of affirmations when reading Louise Hay’s book, You Can Heal Your Life. It felt as if something had been unlocked within me and I could now speak and breathe into existence all the goodness the world had to offer.
When researching for this post I realised that Louise Hay had passed away last year. She was indeed a modern day Saint and had a remarkable ability to capture hearts, connect with spirit and resonate deeply with all those who read her work. May her timeless teachings be a reminder to all of you- be sure to walk in the light, love without barriers, create prosperity, follow your inner voice and more. As they say, repetition is the mother of all skill.
Words are our greatest weapons- they can make or break, heal or harm, build or destruct, uplift or degrade. Positive words can recreate the world as you know it- all you need to do is have a desired outcome in mind. Positive affirmations have a basis in a scientific concept known as Neuro-Linguistic programming. Neuroplasticity is the correlation between our spoken thoughts and their ability to completely rewire our brains. As children we are constantly working this muscle, creating neural pathways to expand our knowledge and broaden our horizons. However, as we age, we begin to find ourselves stuck in our own limiting patterns of thought. We become used to a certain way of being and acting. Suddenly, change doesn’t feel so realistic or approachable.
When affirmations are repeatedly consistently, they begin to take charge of your subconscious mind’s thoughts. Eventually, you will come to believe all that you speak of and harmony will be restored once again. It’s easy to forget that our brain is a muscle and can be trained the same way as our bodies. Showing up day after day and putting in the work adds up over time and we accumulate a wealth of positive actions. When we allow ourselves to live out our fullest potential, we’re in the driver’s seat and not just passive onlookers observing our lives go by. There are ultimately no shortcuts in life and real growth comes from focusing on the process.
I recognise that I’m in the beginning stages of a funk when I’m constantly getting in the way and causing roadblocks for myself. Instead of acting with intention, I become reactive. I start to worry instead of being present and find myself distracted rather than grounded in peace. I begin to look outside of myself for validation and acceptance when I know those are intrinsic qualities. There are many reasons we many find ourselves deep in the water of uncertainty- stress, overwhelm, burnout and significant life events can alter the course of our days. During these times it’s especially important to treat ourselves with the same kindness we would another. We should become increasingly aware of our inner dialogue and actively combat rumination and dwelling on situations out of our control. This is where affirmations come in.
Your whole world is constructed by your thoughts. Some of these thoughts may remain at the forefront of your mind, always making themselves known. Others exist at the back of our mind, affecting the way we think and decision make in subtle ways. The goal of making positive affirmations a firm practice in your self care routine is to tap into both your conscious and unconscious reservoirs of thought in order to combat ingrained negative patterns of thought. Try it out sometime- take great care in writing out a few favourite affirmations and then stick them on your mirror or in another prominent place in your home. You could journal your affirmations and meditate over them in your slow moments. Remember, you deserve to feel at your best.
Affirmations are powerful seeds of intent directed at one’s higher self with the ability to change the course of life in quite extraordinary and exciting ways. It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief and, eventually, deep conviction. This is where the transformation begins.

We should align with the energy of gratitude when dealing with our health. The most powerful approach to wellness includes an acknowledgement of our responsibility as well as an opening up to possibility- martina

I really have to remind myself sometimes to take better care of my body. I’m really great at eating well, however, I’d love to do more yoga and meditation because I feel like the health of your body and mind is just SO connected. Thank you so much for sharing this post, I absolutely LOVE your blog and have done it for years ❤️ xx
Such a beautiful comment, thank you Karen! My apologies for not getting back to you earlier- your message accidentally found its way into my spam folder and I only just realised!
That’s great to hear that you’ve gotten into a rhythm of taking care of yourself and practicing wellness. I am not the best at managing my time so frequently slack off on exercising, journalling and other things that can only benefit me! I can guarantee you’ll love Louise’s books. Your mum has great taste!
