First Light, My Muse: Your Monday Encouragement (14/6/21)

When you’re a kid, you colour with reckless abandon. You colour outside the lines. You colour however you feel. Blue elephants, purple trees, red bears, green oceans- it’s all good. As you get older though, everyone tells you to stay inside the lines, to colour everything just like you see it. To be a realist instead of a dreamer. To give up what you long for.

To love someone long term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be. The people they’re too exhausted to be any longer. The people they don’t recognise inside themselves anymore. The people they grew out of, the people they never ended up growing into. We so badly want the people we love to get their spark back when it burns out, to become speedily found when they are lost.

When it is time for something new, you will feel it. You will feel a desire to let go, to shed layers, to move, to recreate. You will know because there will be subtle shifts occurring all around you. You will release the old because you are clearing the paths for what’s ahead, what’s to come. Trust this process. Know that there is a plan in place and life doesn’t take anything from us unless there is something else imminently awaiting its replacement.

A positive to do list: set yourself a fourteen day journaling challenge or start a blog! for centuries, the world’s greatest minds have been spilling their thoughts, asking existential questions and getting to know their quirks and motivations better. They’ve been unlocking their potential and you can too.

Some souls just instantly click. Whether you’re lovers, soulmates, best friends or something else. You accept this person for everything they are and they would never let you be anything other than your beautiful and sometimes flawed self. I think that’s how you know when you’ve met your person. It’s important to remember the true impact you have on those around you.

I look back over my shoulder and clear in view, a series of intentional decisions made under the aubade of surrender with gritted teeth and messy hair. Beyond here I see beauty encompassing my life. This is surrenders graceful song. Want to know what will rob your life of passion and tie your dreams into the plainest and most uninspired of neat, beige, safe parcels? Abandoning yourself to a vocabulary of lack that aimlessly produces lifeless banter. When I finally get, once I’ve bought, once we’ve saved. Those are such boring wearisome words! Your life is now, this present moment. Why are you not taking it by the reins and riding off into the sunset? Your time is now. Don’t wait for better days, make your days better- inspired by muse @tessguinery

Even the biggest trees experience fall. Even the brightest stars get covered by cloud. Even the loveliest moon can’t always shine. You are allowed to rest. Even the helpful river overflows, even the prettiest sunset vanishes, even the strongest ground breaks. There’s no shame in downtime. The true joy in chasing a dream does not lie in catching it but in running around and realising just how free you are. Breathe deep my friend.

Self care comes in many different and sometimes unusual forms. It’s not always black and white. That grey area can cause us to overthink and wonder if we’re actually doing more harm than good. Let’s set your mind at ease.

You are free to be who you were created to be. While the world will do its best to define you, telling you who to be, how to act, what to think, remember this simple truth. Every fibre of your being was designed with purpose and intention.

Yesterday I was clever- I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise- I am changing myself.

Wondering how to love yourself? Begin by stopping all criticism. Criticism never changes a thing. Accept yourself as you are. Everybody transitions and evolves. This doesn’t have to be a negative experience.

Your success is directly connected to your purpose. If we want to see success in our lives, we must intentionally work towards what we’re purposed to do. We cannot let ourselves be distracted by anything outside of our truth. Don’t compromise your creativity, vision or convictions because you believe you’ll obtain more recognition or praise through a change in direction.

You’re only in your twenties (or your teens or thirties or forties or fifties and so forth) and therefore it’s not too late to completely start over. This is an inclusive message. You’ve still got breath in your body and with that comes infinite chances.

Ask yourself the kinds of questions that go beyond today’s desires and dig deeper into the well of what you need. What feelings need acknowledgment?

Maybe it’s not supposed to be easy for you. Maybe you’re one of the rare few who can handle tough times and still choose to be a loving person. Maybe things are going the way they are because you’re built for it.

I am happy when I eat fresh fruit, when I burst out laughing, when I discover a new song, when I finish a good book, when I wake up and feel relaxed. I’m glad to have friends, family, a home, food when I’m hungry, hot water when I shower.
